Falmouth Academy is pleased to welcome William Taubman as the Falmouth Academy Community Series speaker on Tuesday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m
In his Gorbachev biography Gorbachev: His Life and Times, William Taubman, the Bertrand Snell Professor of Political Science Emeritus at Amherst College, shows how a peasant boy turned into Soviet Communism's gravedigger, why the Communist regime allowed him to destroy it, how Gorbachev's dream of democratizing the USSR foundered, how he and President Reagan turned out to be almost perfect partners, and why Gorbachev permitted Eastern Europe to abandon Communism without firing a shot. Taubman's talk will emphasize the impact of Gorbachev's personality on his policies and his fate. This is a free event for the community.
