I have extensive training as an accomplished and recognized artist and also as a respected and experienced art teacher. My background includes a Diploma for a four year studio program at the School of The Museum of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting, sculpture and drawing. In May, 2003, I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, graduating with highest honors, Summa Cum Laude. I was featured in Cape Cod Life Magazine in the "Emerging Artists" 1996, issue. Also, I was included in an article in Cape Women Magazine in 1999, "How and What Women Buy." In the upcoming 2004 March issue of Cape Cod Magazine I will be profiled in an article, "Cape Women." I am the recipient of many awards and scholarships. As a professional artist I also teach painting and pastels at the local art guilds on Cape Cod.
I enjoy two worlds of artistic expression. First, as a teacher, I like guiding students to develop artistically. It gives me satisfaction that I am helping people who are interested in learning to paint and am rewarded with a sense of purpose and meaning. Teaching is a good balance of interaction in my community which also enhances my life as a working artist.
My other world of art and creativity is being a landscape and still life painter. I am happiest and in harmony with the world around me when I am painting. Using bright, rich colors in my landscape and still life compositions I enjoy painting boldly. Working in various medias including oils, pastels and acrylics I respond to my subject matter by what I feel intuitively and see emotionally. I enjoy plein air painting and being close to nature. In inclement or cold weather, I paint in my studio working from still lifes, sketches and photographs. I begin by breaking down nature into flat abstract forms and then build the composition with color, brush stroke and sometimes palette knife. Painting is a way of life for me and it defines who I am.
