Falmouth – An exhibition of paintings by Falmouth residents Jean and Bob Adelman will be on display at the Maser Gallery from March 30 through May 2, 2008.  The gallery is located at FCTV Community Television, 310 Dillingham Avenue. Opening reception: Sunday, April 13, 3 to 5 p.m.

The Adelmans’ exhibited work consists of two main themes.   Jean's theme is SAND: DUNES and DESERTS. Bill's theme is THE FOUR SEASONS: FALLING WATERS and RIVERS.  Both artists work in acrylic, watercolor, oil and casein.

SAND: DUNES and DESERTS contrasts the dunes and sandy beaches of Cape Cod with the desert vistas in Arizona, California, Colorado, and New Mexico.  Jean traveled to many of the areas depicted and did the paintings on site; others were based on original sketches and on impressions derived from the artist's photos and montages.   Some of Jean's paintings are realistic, while others are expressionistic and abstract. All feature a personal style and color palette.  Geography plays a part in Jean’s paintings: the DESERT paintings feature mountains and the DUNE series incorporate the adjacent ocean, marshes, bays and sounds to the sand.

Bill’s THE FOUR SEASONS: FALLING WATERS and RIVERS celebrate the waterways of Northern New England.   The waterfall series of four paintings highlight four New Hampshire falls and one fall over a coastal creek dam in Maine.  The river series includes two from Vermont and two from New Hampshire.  These New England vistas reflect Bill’s joy of living in a four-season environment. All of the acrylic paintings were done during the fall of 2007 while Bill was undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma.

The Adelmans are active in the Falmouth art scene and their work can be found in galleries throughout Cape Cod.  Bill, a member of the Falmouth Artists Guild, has had one-man shows at the Cape Cod Conservatory, Cataumet Arts Center and the Woods Hole Gallery.  Jean has twice been president of the Falmouth Artists Guild and founded the Falmouth Arts Alive Festival.  When she is not painting, she can be seen on stage or behind the scenes at the Falmouth Theater Guild and Woods Hole Theater Company.

The couple can be reached at 508.548.9528 and more of their work can be viewed at www.artistbilladelman.com.
