Global Rhythm Youth and Family Workshop & Concert

Cotuit Center for the Arts. 4404 Rte. 28 in Cotuit will offer a Global Rhythm Youth and Family Workshop and Concert featuring the Martha's Vineyard based band, ENTRAIN on Sunday, June 1. This will be an entertaining blend of music history and performance.
The workshop, designed for ages 8 to 18 will be held from 4pm-5pm for a cost of $5. There will be a dinner break with food for purchase provided by Frank's Franks and Polar Cave Ice Cream.
The youth dance concert begins at 6pm-7pm. Tickets are $5 for ages 8 to 18; $10 for 18 and over. To register and/or to purchase tickets, please call the arts center at 508-428-0669.

Stained Glass Class with Caryn Samuell

Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Rte. 28 in Cotuit will offer a 6-week Stained Glass class for all skill levels, ages 16 years and older. Classes will meet on Mondays beginning April 28. Experienced local artisan Caryn Samuell will teach beginners from 10am-1pm, intermediate students from 2pm-5pm and advanced students from 6pm-9pm. The total cost for all 6 classes, which includes materials is $250 ($225 members.) To register, please call the arts center at 508-428-0669. Caryn Samuell, owner of the Samuell Day Gallery in Cummaquid, has been practicing and teaching the art of stained glass making for over 35 years . Her artistry can be found in many homes and businesses throughout New England. "Her works are known for their details--for the rendering of each feather of a flying parrot, for making a bouquet of red lilies seem so lifelike that you want to touch the glass." She has taught hundreds of students in her studio/workshop, located in a renovated barn on Route 6A where she shares her glass works with over twenty other Cape artists.

Director Carol McManus will hold auditions for THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Jeffrey Hatcher at Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Rte. 28 in Cotuit on June 3 & 7 at 7:00pm with call backs on Saturday, June 14 at 1:00pm. This multi-character vehicle for two, 1 man and 1 woman, will be double cast. Perusal scripts are available at the arts center. Performance dates are slated for August 7-31. Marine Paintings of Charles Legarde

A new art exhibition, “The Marine Paintings of Charles Legarde” is now on display at Highfield Hall in the mansion’s Clark Gallery. An opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, June 8 from 3 to 5 pm and all are welcome to attend. The exhibition will be available for viewing through Saturday, June 28. Highfield Hall is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and also on Sundays in June, July and August. Admission is free of charge.
Born in the famed whaling city of New Bedford, Charles Legarde has had a lifelong attraction to the sea and ships. Legarde, a resident of West Falmouth, pursues this passion to perfection in his luminous and highly detailed oil paintings of the sea and vessels that sail upon it. He approaches each painting with the precision of a scientist, reflecting his more than 30 year-long career as a geophysicist. Throughout his life he has studied with a number of fine artists, including Cape Cod artist, Julia O’Malley-Keyes, in whose gallery Legarde’s work has been showcased.
Nature Sketching with Alison Robb at Highfield Hall

Nature Sketching classes are being offered by Alison Robb, Founder of Nature's Circle and Nature Coordinator for Highfield Hall. These sessions involve guided sketching of the woods and natural environment that surround Highfield Hall and are held inside the Hall in the event of rain. All skill levels are welcome and observation of the natural environment will be stressed. Classes are Thursdays, May 15, June 5, July 17 and August 14 at 2:00 pm. Participants may come for a single class, or for multiple classes. A fee of $10 per session is requested, payable to the instructor at the time of the class.

Choral Performance by the Falmouth Academy Chorale at the West Falmouth Library

The Falmouth Academy Chorale under the direction of John Murelle is pleased to present a program of choral music to the Falmouth community at the West Falmouth Library.
The free concert will explore many of the standards of the choral repertory, both sacred and secular. The composers represented will be J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, and William Boyce. The Chorale will sing arrangements of traditional spirituals, Gonna Be A Great Day, All Night, All Day and Down By The Riverside. In addition, Sarah McAra, a graduating senior will be the featured soloist in the beautiful solo, Summertime from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. The newly formed Honors Quartet, featuring Tessa Hulburt, Anneke Elmhirst, Alexandra Bacon, and Lindsay Child will perform the Rodgers and Hart classic, My Funny Valentine. The program will conclude with Irving Berlin’s God Bless America.
There will be a reception following the concert. The library is handicap accessible.
