Born in the famed whaling city of New Bedford, Charles Legarde has had a lifelong attraction to the sea and ships. Legarde, a resident of West Falmouth, pursues this passion to perfection in his luminous and highly detailed oil paintings of the sea and vessels that sail upon it. He approaches each painting with the precision of a scientist, reflecting his more than 30 year-long career as a geophysicist. Throughout his life he has studied with a number of fine artists, including Cape Cod artist, Julia O’Malley-Keyes, in whose gallery Legarde’s work has been showcased.
