Art Exhibit & Sale: Clear Vision: Masterworks in Glass

Cotuit Center for the Arts is proud to announce Cape Cod's first large group glass artists’ exhibition and sale. The exhibition, Clear Vision: Masterworks in Glass will be on view through July 26. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 10am - 4pm and from 10am - 2pm on Saturday. For more information, please call the arts center at 508-428-0669.

The exhibiting artists are Jim Holmes, Benton Jones, Fritz Lauenstein, Michael Magyar, David McDermott, Bonnie Maresh, Robbie Mason, Ed Poore, Patrick Todoroff, and Travis Weber as well as pieces from historic Pairpoint, America's oldest glassworks. Works will include the full range of hot worked to cold worked, blown, slumped, beveled, leaded and engraved techniques.

Rhymes With Stiches at Highfield Hall

Woods Hole artist Salley Mavor brings her delightful fabric-relief illustrations to Highfield Hall in a new exhibit, “Rhymes with Stitches.” Featured in the exhibition will be artwork from Ms. Mavor’s latest children’s books, published by Houghton Mifflin, Hey, Diddle, Diddle, Jack and Jill and Wee Willie Winkie. The exhibition opens on Monday June 30, with a reception to be held from 4 to 6 pm. Eight Cousin’s Bookstore will have be on hand with copies of Mavor’s books for sale and the artist will be in attendance to sign books and discuss her work. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend; children, especially, are welcome.

 

Mavor’s art work will be on display in the Clark Gallery at Highfield Hall from Monday, June 30 – Sunday, August 3. Highfield Hall is open to the public Monday – Friday and Sundays from 10 am to 3 pm. Admission is free of charge.

Summer Art for Teens

Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Rte. 28 in Cotuit will offer Summer Art, an intensive program for co-ed students, ages 12 - 15, with an enthusiastic interest in art. The program includes extensive classes in painting, black and white photography, sculpture, and drawing where students will have the opportunity to explore a range of media and visual ideas. Much focus is given to observational assignments. Plaster, wire, charcoal, oil painting, and darkroom techniques will be introduced. Many courses and projects will draw inspiration from the Cape landscape and ocean.

There will be three two-week sessions:  June 30 - July 11; July 14 - July 25 and July 28 - August 8.  Classes will be held each weekday from 8:30am to 12:30pm.  The cost for tuition for each two week session is $600 ($550 for CCftA members).   The tuition fee includes all art supplies and studio expenses. A great value at $15 per hour!  To register, please call the arts center at 508-428-0669 or visit www.CotuitCenterForTheArts.org

Faculty consists of experienced, practicing, artists and teachers who look forward to working with creative art students this summer.

At the end of each session every student will have acquired new skills, explored exciting media, produced a portfolio of artwork, and benefited from the experience of working with peers in a motivating and creative environment. 

Shakespeare on the Cape presents "Kiddie Shakes" --THE TEMPEST

Shakespeare on the Cape, a troupe of talented, dedicated, young actors who appear at several locations Cape-wide will present a one-hour "Kiddie Shakes" performance of THE TEMPEST by William Shakespeare. 

Directed by Tessa K. Bry, performances will be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesdays, July 15, 22 & 29 at Cotuit Center for the Arts, 4404 Rte. 28 in Cotuit. 

This shortened, narrated version  is a simple tale of  fairies, witches, monsters, betrayal, retribution, redemption and forgiveness  that is sure to delight both children and adults alike.  Tickets are $5.00; children 12 and under free.  To reserve tickets, please call the box office at 508-428-0669.

Moliere's THE SCHOOL FOR WIVES

About Shakespeare on the Cape

Entering its fourth season, SOTC has deep roots in the Cape Cod community and draws on the personal and artistic resources of the Tyrone Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where many of the principals had their original training. Its mission is to create unexpected, text-intensive, and audience-friendly theater, with a dedication to young and emerging artists. SOTC is focused on cultivating a strong relationship with their Cape Cod audience while strengthening the creative programming, fiscal discipline, and organizational stability necessary to bring SOTC into the future. Summer Stock Theater Workshop for Teens

Designed for students ages 13-18, Bob Bock instructs this three-week theater immersion workshop leading to performance. 

Skills taught during the workshop will include acting,  stage movement, as well as technical skills in set construction and painting, properties, costumes, stage management, lighting and set management.

Open to all skill levels—beginner to experienced will find this workshop beneficial and fun for all! A worthwhile chance for you and your friends to work together.

Pre-registration is required. Fee:  $250; $225 for members.  Class size limited. Classes meet Monday - Friday. from 1pm to 4pm.
