Cotuit Center for the Arts and Trespass Music are partnering to present ‘The Art Barn Songwriter Series’ beginning on Monday, September 13, 2010. Doors open at 7pm and the shows begin at 7:30pm. There is a suggestion donation of $5.00 at the door.
The Art Barn Songwriter Series will be held in the Art Studio building to the right of the main building at Cotuit Center for the Arts. This special series will give music fans an up close and personal look at the area’s up and coming performers. As a surprise treat, nationally touring artists are expected to stop by for an occasional show.
“For a long time we have had the idea of creating a comfortable, fun and affordable series that works for everyone. Musicians get to share their work with a new audience, and music fans on Cape Cod have a regular place to come and hear some of the best new music being created. When we discovered the Art Barn, we knew it was the perfect space for what we had envisioned. I was thrilled when the folks at CCftA agreed to it.” –Tracey Delfino of Trespass Music
“Music is an integral part of CCftA's programming. One of the Center's goals is to be known as a venue for ongoing concerts, genre series and as a resource for music education. When Trespass Music approached us with the idea of a bi-monthly songwriter series, we jumped at the opportunity. The Center's studio is the perfect setting for such a venture and we look forward to expanding our musical offerings through the Art Barn Songwriter Series.”- David Kuehn, Executive ‘Director of CCftA
The season kicks off on Monday, September 13th, with Long Island based singer songwriter Joe Iadanza and Cape Cod’s own John and Rachel Nicholas sharing the night.

HOMESPUN TRAD Presents Celtic Duo Stanley & Grimm (Nikki Engstrom on fiddle, and Sean Brennan vocals/guitar)
Category: Family Friendly
Start: Sunday, November 7, 2010
Times: 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Location: O'Sheas Olde Inne - 348 Main Street(Rte. 28) West Dennis, MA
Stanley & Grimm, award-winning traditional music duo featuring Nikki Engstrom on fiddle and Sean Brennan on guitar and vocals will play a special Sunday afternoon show at O’Shea’s Olde Inne in West Dennis as part of the HOMESPUN TRAD concert series. Sunday November 7th at 3:00 PM. Admission $10. The performance will feature selections from their new CD, Open the Gate, which explores a colorful range of old and new Celtic- influenced songs, reels, jigs, hornpipes, and even a little jazz...
According to Dan Hallissey, host of Boston’s popular “Irish Rambler Radio Show,” STANLEY & GRIMM have a wonderfully pure, organic and authentic sound that makes them rank among the finest entertainers on this side of the Atlantic. Their arrangements and playing ability enables them to produce an acoustic tapestry which is close to perfection.”
On Open the Gate, Stanley & Grimm take their Celtic-influenced modern traditional music on a world tour with jigs and reels straight out of Ireland, fiddle tunes from Scotland, Canada, Sweden, and the United States, an original tune named for Nikki’s son, and a playful pairing of a popular Irish seisiun tune, “The Mason's Apron,” with the classic Broadway standard, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Woven through the instrumentals are songs that range from the traditional favorite “Carrickfergus,” to newer hits from Irish songwriters Luka Bloom and the Sawdoctors—as well as the “Galway Girl,” from American roots songwriter Steve Earle.
Stanley and Grimm (fiddler Nikki Engstrom and singer/guitarist Sean Brennan) lead listeners into a celebration of traditional music through old and new interpretations of jigs, reels, and songs played with lively fiddle, guitar, and voice. Their CD, Another Round, was awarded the Celtic Radio Music Award for the 2008 Album of the Year, and also took top honors in the “Jigs & Reels” category. The Celtic Radio Network describes their music as “emotionally stirring, exhilarating, perfectly splendid!” The infectious fun they have on stage and their intense playing have helped them to become fan favorites on the New England traditional music scene.
Joe O’Shea, proprietor of O’Shea’s Olde Inne in West Dennis, started the Homespun Trad series on Sunday afternoons last year in an effort to provide support and exposure for local Cape Cod musicians and to create a comfortable and creative venue for performances during the long, slow winter season here on Cape Cod. The series has featured well known groups from off Cape as well, but most importantly has exposed local audiences to the innovative and incredibly talented musicians living amongst us here on Cape Cod.
“Homespun refers to the weaving of fabric locally. Historically it was used against the British Empire by locals in India and Ireland who would buy only homespun products, not British products. The homespun trad series honors musicians from the Cape and South Shore.” Joe O’Shea
